We bought a retractable awning from this manufacturer for our outdoor dining space. Since it is roughly 12’x10’, it was pretty easy to maneuver. One thing we liked was that it came completely assembled. All my husband had to do was put up the mounting brackets. To operate it you turn the manual crank and unroll the fabric cover. Retracting the canopy was a bit tougher, and if you had adjusted the pitch while extended, you needed to set it back to neutral before retracting. It is pretty lightweight, so we contacted Advaning to buy another set of brackets but they don’t sell the brackets separately – they only sell brackets complete with an awning. We are a little worried that it seems a bit flimsy and may not last very long. We will know if it will last as we move through time.

I found the Advaning awning online and decided to give it a try even though most reviews are not very good. It took me a little trial and error to get it mounted. The biggest key was making sure it was all level before you start drilling and installing. When using it I found it can be tough to change the pitch of the awning. Lowering it is ok but trying to raise it, especially when the awning is extended, can be pretty tough. My solution is just to retract it partway and then change the pitch. An awning does a decent job of covering my entire patio, although the fabric is very thin and does not protect from rain – even a drizzle, and it is a good change having the awning in place on sunny days compared to when I did not.

My wife and I just bought a new home, and the first improvement we agreed on was installing an awning over the deck to protect it from the sun. We checked the ratings and decided to go with the Advaning L Series, even though we did read some negative reviews from unhappy consumers. We liked the color choices and that it retracted into a metal cassette, and was advertised as easy to install which it was not! We ordered it from a local supplier, and it arrived fully assembled in a cheap cardboard box. The box was damaged, but thankfully the awning was not. It took us a day to plow through the instructions and mount the brackets, and the steel housing. There are two hubs for the crank to hook into, one extends or retracts the awning, and the other changes the pre-set pitch. The crank turns with a lot of effort – so much effort that it caused the crank to bend. Also, make sure you don’t allow the crank to bang you in the face. We tried the pitch adjustment, but I’m not sure we’ll use it much. The canopy covers the deck and the windows when extended, and we can now enjoy our outdoor space.

I’d purchased a small lakeside cabin a couple of years ago. It had a covered porch across the front which blocked the light from getting into the cabin, so I had the roof removed. The difference was amazing. Lots of light streams into the cabin, and it feels and smells so much better. I decided I wanted a retractable awning so I could shade the windows on hot days. I checked reviews for different products and selected the one from Advaning’s S Series. Other consumers said it was light, simple to install, durable, and the canopy fabric was heavy. I found none of these comments to be accurate except installation wasn’t too difficult with extra hands to help; I wouldn’t want to do it alone. The frame is extremely gaunt and the fabric is completely transparent and ectomorphic. The striped fabric jazzes up the cabin, and on hot days the shade is appreciated although since it is transparent, we don’t get much shade. I hope the aluminum won’t corrode, and I’m not sure how the fabric will handle the winter; I may store it in the cabin to make it last longer since I didn’t buy the optional hood cover.

I ended up with a hunter green awning after reading reviews and checking out Advaning’s ratings. I know manual models can be difficult to close, so I chose the motorized one even though it costs a little more. The reviews said the canvas material was heavy and durable, and that it has metal parts. I wanted something that was going to last and not need replacing anytime soon. Unfortunately, this was not the product I expected. Installation was a bit more difficult, and the unit too heavy to lift by myself, so have extra help. Once everything was attached and plugged in, it was just a matter of pushing a button. The fabric unrolled fairly quickly, and the aluminum arms opened up and made a lot of noise. The awning covers my outdoor dining area and keeps the sun off the window. The testimonials I read prior to my purchase were piteous but I purchased because of low price….I won’t do that again. Now that the awning has been up for about 1 year, I am starting to see rust on the “aluminum non-rusting” frame and the fabric has faded to almost white. Advaning is most definitely not a brand I would advise that anyone purchase.

I purchased a 12’x10’ C Series for my patio after checking out reviews. I also watched some videos, so I knew what to expect. I wanted a manually operated product so I wouldn’t have to worry about installing an outlet, plus they had a fabric color that would complement my house. It was shipped to my address, and all I had to do was install it. My brother and I spent a Saturday installing it. The hardest part was aligning the brackets and securing them to the brick wall. Once that was done, the rest went as expected. The semi-cassette housing looks just average against the house, and the acrylic fabric rolls out with the turn of the crank. The aluminum arms extend as it rolls out and supports the front bar. It keeps the sun off my patio, and our beverages stay cool longer. Hoping it survives the summer because it is an Asian product and appears cheaply made.

My wife wanted something to keep the sun off the back deck and reduce the heat entering into the living room. I suggested curtains, she told me she found something better, and it was being shipped. She said she’d checked out the product and reviews that were average. My wife bought it due to a low price. It was a 16’x10’ manual awning from the C Series line. It arrived in a long box fully assembled. All I had to do was install the brackets. I watched the installation video and some others I found online. Lining up, leveling, and installing the brackets took the most time. A buddy helped me lift the housing into place and secure it. The product was manufactured with poor paint as it has already begun to chip. This product is just ordinary. The awning is in an aluminum cassette, but the crank is difficult to turn. Be careful that you don’t bang your knuckles. The striped canvas covers the window without cutting off the view like curtains would, so everything is cool. Happy wife = happy life:)

My husband and I have been looking for a retractable awning for our deck for some time. We’d spent hours listening to salespeople and online reading reviews for different models. We finally settled on the S Series. The reviews said it is lightweight, easy to install, and durable but it certainly is none of these plus the polyester fabric has worn very thin. We waited for a sale to bring the price down, and then made our purchase. The awning came in a skinny, brown dinged up cardboard box with all the parts (except the bolts) necessary to mount it to the wall. It doesn’t have the protective housing, so my husband mounted it below the soffit to protect the fabric. The hand crank opens the cover without difficulty, but it’s very difficult to close even for my husband who bench presses 300lbs. The striped canopy adds to the look of our patio and seems durable. We’re hoping to enjoy protection from warm sunny weather. For our replacement awning, we really like the Venezia model from Retractableawnings.com as it keeps out birds, bugs and squirrels and looks to be superior quality.

Our summer cabin is small but has a large deck. We didn’t want to get a permit to build a permanent cover over it, so we bought a 16’x10’ Advaning retractable awning. The ratings were just ok though the sale price even better. We liked that it was boxed for shipping and fully assembled ready to hang. The brackets weren’t too difficult to install, and then we just slid the main bar in. The cabin is 16’ wide, so when we open the canopy up, the fabric covers the entire area and keeps the sun off the whole wall, door and windows making it cooler inside. The arms support the front bar at a good angle, and it all retracts into a steel housing to protect the fabric. Actually, this product is not “just ok”, it is downright pitiful in terms of quality. The frame is rusted after being up for less than 6 months and the fabric has begun to rot. Advaning says the rusting of the frame and the rotting of the fabric are not covered by the warranty. We definitely don’t recommend Advaning retractable awnings!

I picked up a 12’x10’ Advaning C Series at my local box store. I’d read the reviews, and it seemed like a decent choice, and the price tag was right. I watched the installation video and some other videos online and then mounted the brackets. Make sure you know where the studs for your wall are and use a level. I didn’t and my awning was installed crooked and then came crashing down. The awning has a metal case that protects the fabric, and everything was assembled ready to go. Have a helper when you go to put the main beam into the brackets, it’s easier. The manual crank is too short but extends and retracts the awning with a lot of effort, and the awning provides decent shade to my outdoor space. It has a pitch feature, but you have to realign it before you retract it, so I haven’t used it yet.

I purchased the Advaning L Series for one of my rental properties. I wanted something to spruce up the look of the rental and hopefully, attract a more upscale renter. I’d read the testimonials, so when a local supplier had a sale, the price was right and within my budget. I’m a DIYer, and the video and reviews made it sound easy to install. It was not easy to install mostly because the written installation instructions were in Chinese and not in English! It would cover a small deck and protect the window from the sun’s heat too. The installation was reasonably difficult so I recommend having help especially if it is a larger awning. Everything needed for installation was included except the lag bolts. Had I known that before starting to install I would have purchased them prior to beginning the install. I like the cover that protects the fabric from the elements, rodents, squirrels and bird’s nests. The metal parts are aluminum, so it shouldn’t rust. I’m hoping it’s durable and long lasting like a few people state on the web.

Found the S Series awning from Advaning on sale at a discount store. It was a great price, so I bought it. When I got it home, I went online to check the reviews, which were not so good. I just hoped mine wasn’t the lemon. The box was banged up, but when I opened it, the awning looked fine. The packaging was intact so it may not have been a return and it had the instruction manual. The mounting brackets were straight forward, but make sure you measure accurately, so you have some wiggle room when sliding in the main bar. The crank rolls the awning out with difficult. A brick wall isn’t very forgiving. The aluminum arms open and support the front bar at the angle you set. The solid boring beige canopy is acceptable, I’d have preferred the stripes, but beggars can’t be picky. It covers the deck, window and sliding door from the sun which is what I wanted it for.

I purchased S Series after reading ratings. It was more expensive than some, but not as expensive as others. The testimonials spoke about its installation, lighter weight, durability, and quality of the fabric. Now that the awning has been installed for about a year and a half, the higher cost was not worth it as the paint on the frame has already begun to peel and the fabric has begun to mildew. Installation wasn’t difficult (well…maybe a little). I mounted it just under the soffit so it would have some protection from the weather. I don’t want the fabric to rot or any metal to rust, but we’ll see. The awning opens with difficulty with the manual crank, and the aluminum arms support the front bar at the pre-set angle. However, you can change the pitch to reduce the sun’s glare as it sets. You need to return it to the pre-set angle before closing, and it’s easier to do if you half close the awning. It is also more difficult to close than open. After the season I’ll let you know if it was worth the extra cost, but so far I don’t think so due to the paint peeling and poor caliber fabric.

I’d been looking at awnings and checking out ratings, and different models for a while. When my local box store listed the Advaning L Series with a good sale price, I jumped on it. The low cost made it a good deal. The testimonials said it was easy to install and is shipped assembled. All I’d have to do was attach the mounting brackets and slide in the metal cassette. I had read up and watched some clips, so it went fairly well. I did need some help with the final step though. The fabric canopy moves out and in with each turn of the crank, so you can open it only part way if you want. I like that the parts are aluminum so they should not rust. Since I know it is from China, I’m hopeful it will last at least 2 years. I say this cause the fabric and valance trim have already begun to fade after only 3 months of use!

Just opened Bistro with a small patio that is on the side of the building. The owner of the building asked if we would install an awning to cover that space. We checked around online and chose the Advaning awning. Really wanted something a DIY’er could do. The installation was a bit of a challenge as we struggled to get it lined up in the brackets. The color is not as advertised and in also, they only offered the awning in only 2 solid colors – not much of a choice. We should have requested fabric samples prior to making a purchase. This awning has been ok, in general, but it has not stood up to daily use as we would have hoped as it has begun to corrode and shake/rattle. That might be because it is a residential version that is not intended for a commercial space. We will never know as we won’t buy another Advaning product!

I needed an awning to shade my patio and window sliders. We get a lot of afternoon sun and it really cooks if we’re relaxing outside. I’m not sure about the pricing at my local DIY store, but the 12-foot Advaning C Series model was on sale and only $100 more than the 8-foot one. So I went with the 12-foot. The Asian retractable awning in the C Series has a manual crank and Asian acrylic fabric cover. The fabric isn’t waterproof, which is a disadvantage. The install was pretty much like other customers wrote in their internet testimonials. The aluminum frame is quite light, with very thin extrusions, so I’m a bit worried if it’ll support the fabric like the manufacturer states. It covers the deck and helps keep the sun off the window sliders and deck which was the basic plan. Other than the above disappointments, I’ve not that much to complain about yet. Will be able to give some updates a little bit later.

Bought this manual awning as a housewarming gift for my sister. It was on clearance, so the price was right. According to the reviews, it’s easy to install, the fabric of reasonable quality, and easy to operate. I didn’t want an electric one as the house has no outlet on the deck side. Installation took a bit longer than planned. You want to leave enough room under the roof to attach the awning to the mounts. The canopy opens and needs a lot of effort, so my sister will build up some muscles closing it. The adjustable angle is a nice feature, not sure how often my sister will use it though. The aluminum arms work quietly but are very flimsy for supporting the fabric weight. The fabric is also thin and as I discovered recently doesn’t even shed rainwater from a sprinkle. In fact, water runs through the fabric. The striped fabric gave the deck a fresh look and brought a smile to my sister’s face, so maybe it’s worth it…..I guess. We’ll see!

My octogenarian parent purchased the Advaning L Series as a replacement for a manual model as she couldn’t operate the manual anymore. She said she liked the color and the prices were the best. My task was to install it so she could use her patio on sunny days. I was concerned with her deal, so I checked the reviews, and also checked out the manufacturer. The testimonials I read were on average “just ok”, and the Advaning had online manuals and an installation video, so I was better prepared and had the tools I’d need. However, the installation was difficult due to the design of the retractable awning and took the whole day. I’m glad it was a small awning, or I’d have to be Superman to lift it into place. Once everything was secure, and I’d plugged it in, the remote did not work so I had to request a replacement which has still not arrived from China even after 8 weeks of waiting. I’ll see if it will be able to withstand all weather issues we often experience in our area.

Ordered this electric retractable awning and it was delivered to the door, assembled and in a flimsy box. Some testimonials stated it was easy to install and operate. For me, it was easy to install as I am very handy. Our walls are board and batten, so I attached a ledger board first so the brackets could be attached securely. The instructions and video were adequate, though installation did take a while even with the help of a neighbour. It’s a good idea to have help to mount the retractable awning especially when lifting the awning into the brackets. The motorized unit opens and closes the fabric cover as advertised; I just hope the motor doesn’t burn out because I know it is made in Asia and most products from Asia are low in price but also low in quality. The striped canvas gives a good feel to the deck and helps keep the sun off the windows but does appear to be polyester which I know for a fact will not last in the sun. I like that the fabric retracts into a protective housing and that the arms are aluminum. I’ll maybe add more to the house depending on how it lasts outdoors baking in the Florida sun.

Our plan was to install it under the eaves, below the roof, where it would be protected from the weather. We would then be able to roll out the canopy to keep the sun off the deck and windows and enjoy the outdoor space. We liked the Easy Pitch feature since it would allow us to lower the front bar and block more of the setting sun. Installation wasn’t as easy as expected. Make sure you have enough room to turn the manual crank; it works better when vertical than on an angle. Once installed, the awning rolled out with difficulty and the pitch adjusted downward. Raising the pitch takes effort, especially if the canopy is fully extended. Retracting the awning partially before adjusting the pitch makes it a wee bit easier. You may want to do some strength exercises so it’ll be easier to retract the awning too. Seriously! The awning is very difficult to open and close

My parents moved into a smaller home, and their new patio faces west. As a housewarming gift, I got them an Advaning awning. I’d read some mediocre testimonials and figured it would help keep the house cooler and allow them to use their patio furniture more comfortably. It arrived fully assembled in a box, all my brother-in-law and I had to do was mount the 3 brackets and slide the awning bar into place. We tucked it up under the soffit for added protection, even though it has the metal semi-cassette housing. The canvas fabric rolls out and the aluminum arms support the front bar at the pitch we chose. The product reviews I read were correct – this product is mediocre at best! Hopefully, it wasn’t made in a “sweatshop” in China.

Once installed into our wood framed house using lag bolts, turning the manual crank unrolled the fabric cover. Retracting the canopy took more effort, and you have to return the pitch to the normal placement if you adjust the angle. Since the awning is all self-contained and reasonably portable, we’d also bought an extra set of mounting brackets for the cottage. We plan to take it to the cottage for the 4 weeks we are there so that we can enjoy the shade both at home and at the cottage. Hopefully, everything is durable enough to withstand the moving back and forth although I don’t think it will be as the frame paint has already begun to peel and the fabric is discolored in several locations. Cheap, cheap stuff from Asia – Don’t recommend.

The awning doesn’t have a cover to protect it, so I mounted it up under the roof to protect it from the weather. Installation wasn’t too tricky, but make sure everything is level before drilling holes. Once installed, the canopy opened with a lot of effort with the crank. The arms and entire frame look lightweight and cheap and the whole thing is made in China and some people say they’re fine; I’ll wait and see. Some of the testimonials commented on how difficult the awning is to extend after it stays retracted for a while – these testimonials were correct! Changing the pitch downward is difficult, and I agree with other reviewers that it isn’t easy to raise if the canopy is fully extended. It covers the deck and the patio furniture; hopefully, I’ll get lots of use out of it, even though it is difficult to both extend and retract. Had I known the awning was made in China, I would never have purchased it – everything I buy made in China falls apart and never lasts!! Buyer beware.

We have a commercial property that just opened, a Bistro with a small patio. The proprietor asked if we’d install an awning to cover it. We checked what was available locally, and chose the Advaning model. We do most of the maintenance ourselves, so we wanted something a DIYer could do. The installation was a bit difficult; however, the wall brackets to mount it were included except one was missing so we had to wait for a new bracket to be shipped from China. It opens and closes with the push of a button, and covers the patio protecting patrons from the sun. The color compliments the building and adds a modern touch to the Bistro. The canopy is supported by spring loaded aluminum arms when extended, and it all retracts into a metal cover to protect the fabric from the elements. This model has not stood up to daily use so we will looked on this review site and others and found the best quality to be from RetractableAwnings.com. We will order from them for our other commercial properties.
