Nu Image awnings has been in the industry for over 25 years. The manufacturer offers a varied selection of shading solutions for homes. It is under Futureguard Building Products, Inc., a third generation family owned and operated business. The company utilizes a 63,000 square foot facility. These are the awnings that Nuimage offers:

  • Aluminum window awnings are available in several models with either support arms or side wings to fit almost any window style. Nu Image has both roll up and stationary designs.
  • Nu Image Retractable Awnings or Patio Awnings are simple to install and operate. The roof extends the outdoor living space and helps protect the area from the sun. It is available as manual or motorized operation. Customers can either use it electric powered or manually through a roll up. RV Awnings are also offered by Nu Image.
  • Fabric awnings are available in several styles and a good selection of fabric patterns and colors. Customers can also opt for it to be freestanding.

The materials that Nu Image uses are made in the US. They also have partnered with three home improvement “big box” companies in the US.

Nu Image products are available online on their official website, where customers can browse their products for comparison, and installation instructions, and other necessary details about the services they offer.

The installation of our Nu Image G250 would have been humorous if it hadn’t cost so much. As other reviews comment, the instructions weren’t much help. My BBQ cost significantly less and had better instructions. We adjusted the pitch, again the instructions failed to note if the arms should be fully open, closed, or partially open when adjusting the angle. We figured it out through trial and error and watching videos. The motor opens and closes the awning fine, but is louder than awaited, especially when retracting. We’ve been enjoying it a couple of years now, and it does what we want as a shading device but the Sunbrella fabric has started to fade and mildew. I have filed a claim (Nu Image would not help me) under warranty with Glen Raven the owner of Sunbrella and if they don’t replace the fabric at no charge I will file a complaint at the BBB. I’m hoping we don’t have any problems with the motor or frame corrosion which I read is a problem with Nu Image brand.

Our Nu Image 7700 has been in use for a month or so. It shades the patio and windows when open, making it cooler for relaxing. As other reviewers found, the installation instructions could be a lot better. In fact, they are downright poor and thus attaching the aluminum awning hood was very frustrating. The metal arms are lightweight, and as other reviewers around the web have noted, it doesn’t handle gusts or sustained wind well. Unfortunately, the arms (the most vital part of the awning I am told) started to rust after only a month. We were told they are non rusting aluminum but apparently they are not. In the early evening, the sun drops below the set awning angle. We considered adjusting the pitch, but it’s not an easy task, nor one you want to do daily. It’s more of a once a season adjustment. It’s easier to retract the awning and put on sunglasses and a hat!

We’ve been enjoying the Nu Image K300 retractable awning at our country cottage for six weeks now. It was cheaper to do myself than hire the closest installer from 4 hours away. The instructions aren’t of much use, so my helper (our neighbour) and I watched several videos. We mounted the brackets to a wood header board first using countersunk through bolts and then installed the header board level up near the roof. The instruction diagram shows a 7-1/4” space needed for tilting the awning cassette into the brackets. Not much wiggle room or finger space as we found – found out our soffits aren’t level. Probably didn’t need an awning with a cassette, but the hope is it will keep the fabric cleaner and deter birds, squirrels, bats and bugs from getting to the cover. The motor works, but is noisier than hoped for. Hopefully, it lasts. What we know won’t last is the frame as the arms have started to corrode at the elbows.

We’ve been using our Nu Image retractable awning for about 3 weeks. It’s the Pro Series 8700. We went with the 11-foot 8-inch projection for the 16-foot wide canopy. It covers the deck and shades several windows, making the house feel cooler. Installation was not easy, and as other reviewers found, the instructions aren’t of much use. We’ve used the Flex-pitch adjustment several times. It makes it easier to change for the angle for protection from the morning sun. Hopefully, we don’t wear it out. The powder-coated aluminum is lightweight but has begun to pit on the arms and front bar. If it’s windy, we tend to leave the awning extended and hopefully, the awning can withstand an occasional wind gust or sustained wind. The hand crank to open and close is a good work out, but it might keep me in shape ;)

My motorized retractable Nu Image G150 awning has been installed for about a month. As other reviews have stated, on this and other websites, don’t rely on the installation instructions. The powder-coated aluminum is lightweight, very thin and I’m hoping it can withstand the occasional wind gust or a sustained wind. Some of the testimonials don’t sound good. The motor extends the awning quietly but is much louder when retracting and under load. Hopefully, that’s normal. The fabric seems to have stretched some in the middle, it sags. Not sure if adjusting the arm/elbow will tighten it, or if there’s another way, or it’s the way it is. I’ll check some videos and see if there are any suggestions. If not, I’ll call Nu Image. It is nice to sit outdoors in the shade on a sunny, hot day, though!

I got my Nu Image NuShade model at my local building store. It’s a manual 14’x12’ retractable awning. I’d read the average reviews and testimonials, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Installation instructions could be better. I did install a 2×6 ledger board which added to the cost. There are a lot of small parts that can fall through the cracks. The aluminum frame has a baked on white finish, and I went with the mahogany stripe that was offered. There are more selections online, but I prefer seeing the color in person to viewing it on my computer – next time I will request fabric samples. The hand crank is a major workout, and I have to remember to retract it, so the rain doesn’t stretch the fabric. Hopefully, when I hose it down to wash it as per the instructions, it doesn’t stretch and the frame doesn’t rust.

I read the reviews and testimonials around the web for the NuImage NuShade motorized retractable model and decided it would be acceptable to shade our patio. A bit pricey, but that means it should be better? Time will tell! The online ordering process was confusing, but I did get through it with assistance. From the web reviews, I knew what to expect with a DIY installation, so I made sure to watch some installation videos and have extra help. The motor retracts and extends the awning as I expected from the reviews, but I’m glad it has the manual crank just in case as our neighborhood lost electricity last week from a terrible storm. I just have to remember to hose the fabric and frame down every now and then and make sure it’s dry prior to retracting and closing. I’ll add more after I’ve used it more but for now, the quality appears to be very average.

My 10 feet wide x 8 feet depth Nu Shade retractable awning by Nu Image in Harbor cloth is motorized and operates with remote control. It cost more than some others but the reviews and testimonials weren’t as bad as some others, plus the sale price was good. Assembly and installation took longer than I expected, and the instructions could have been better. The motor is not as quiet as expected, and there is a squeak that I have to find and grease. The metal parts appear to be aluminum, but the whole thing together is heavy and awkward, so extra hands are a good idea. The acrylic fabric isn’t waterproof and sags a lot if it gets wet.
