Picked up a motorized 16-foot Awntech/BeautyMark Destin LX with a 10-foot projection from my local building supply store. I’d read some reviews and even though they were not good, I decided to give it a go based on the sale price…which made it more attractive. The installation took me longer than it should have, but then again I am not handy. I probably should have had my carpenter install it. I like that everything retracts under the hood, so there’s less maintenance, just hope it stays closed and always retracts fully. The awning provides the shade needed; I just hope it keeps working for at least 1 year since all components, parts, and motors are manufactured in China.

Wanted an awning for our home that we could install ourselves. We are not very handy and were worried that this might be too much of a project for us. It turns out this was a little tough because the awning is so long and a little hard to wrangle when installing. The best part for us is the automatic extension and retraction because we really did not want to spend our time spinning a crank by hand. Although the fabric is paper-thin, it works pretty well blocking the sun, but you really have to be careful if the wind even picks up a little. When it does move even a little, it really starts to creak, and it seems like one good gust could rip it right off the wall. I guess since all the parts are made in China I shouldn’t expect more 🙁
