Me and my buddies decided to buy an old RV for tailgating at the University of Georgia football games. Once we started using it, we realized we wanted some type of outdoor cover. We found the Awntech and figured for as little as it costs, we might as well give it a shot. It was tough to figure out how to mount the brackets to the outside of the motor home since you are supposed to put it on a house, but once we did that it worked well for what we needed. Not sure how long it will last since the frame and retractable arms are very lean but like I said for the money we paid it is just okay.

I just opened a small ladies boutique and wanted to kind of class up the entrance so I decided on a retractable awning. I was worried that it might make the store look to “closed in” so figured I would get something that retracts so I could try different looks. Went with the Awntech I found online in a color that was close to my existing decor and brand. When it arrived, I realized it was more than I could do so got a handyman to install it for me. He had it up pretty quickly, and it looks nice. The only problem is that I am not that strong and it is very tough to move in and out and up and down, and so I find that I am not moving it that much. Found out after purchase that the gear ratio on Awntech awnings is very low thus causing the difficulty in extending and retracting. Cannot advocate that you buy Awntech.

I’ve got to say that while I like how my Awntech retractable awning looked initially, the color of the fabric has started to fade pretty quickly and it has only been four months! I don’t really retract it that much because I like the look it adds to the front of the house but if it really gets windy, we close it although the crank closer is hard to rotate. I am worried that the frame seems a bit cheap and may not have a long life but all in all it has worked pretty well for what I needed. When I called Awntech, the lady I spoke with said “asian products are not designed to last forever”. Hopefully, sooner than later we will know if it will last or not.

Wanted an awning for our home that we could install ourselves. We are not very handy and were worried that this might be too much of a project for us. It turns out this was a little tough because the awning is so long and a little hard to wrangle when installing. The best part for us is the automatic extension and retraction because we really did not want to spend our time spinning a crank by hand. Although the fabric is paper-thin, it works pretty well blocking the sun, but you really have to be careful if the wind even picks up a little. When it does move even a little, it really starts to creak, and it seems like one good gust could rip it right off the wall. I guess since all the parts are made in China I shouldn’t expect more :(

Picked up a motorized 16-foot Awntech/BeautyMark Destin LX with a 10-foot projection from my local building supply store. I’d read some reviews and even though they were not good, I decided to give it a go based on the sale price…which made it more attractive. The installation took me longer than it should have, but then again I am not handy. I probably should have had my carpenter install it. I like that everything retracts under the hood, so there’s less maintenance, just hope it stays closed and always retracts fully. The awning provides the shade needed; I just hope it keeps working for at least 1 year since all components, parts, and motors are manufactured in China.

I picked up my 8-foot Awntech/BeautyMark California awning at the local big box store. I needed something to cover the south deck and window and internet reviews sound +/- just ok. The sun was baking us outdoors and in. The California is a manual crank retractable model. The wall brackets and parts were included, but I had to buy additional lag screws to mount it to the wall studs. The install was like the testimonials I reviewed stated – difficult due to instructions in Chinese. It has a removable valance strip, not sure why it’s removable. The fabric is acrylic and is supposed to resist mildew, be water resistant, and hold its color for up to 1 year. But here I guess only time will tell.
